Name: Niall O'Brien (nye - al)
Primary Draconium Influence: Blue
Secondary Draconium Influences: White, Black, Light-Green, Turqiouse, Purple
Allegiance: Dragon City
Occupation: Psychiatrist and also Translator or Negotiator, when people ask it of him (NOTE: I did some research and Psychiatry dates as far back as Greece, but if you want me to change it to something else, I won't have a problem ^_^)
He is a beuatiful man, that can hardly be denied, He is tall, pale (from the little sunlight in Fair Town) and has wiry muscles under his fine tunics and cloaks from restraining patients to hard rides with Archer. He loves to wear different shades of green or blue, which contrasts strikingly his with long black hair. His hair is always tied back into loose tail with a white silk ribbon, and his eyes are a colour he likes to call "Vegetable soup shade" He carries himself with no arrogance, but only with a sense of nobility, even though when he opens his mouth it is obvious he comes from a poor background.
He is almost always seen smiling, a kind and open smile that welcomes anyone to speak to him. Children, particulary quite like him, and he always carries small candies in his pockets to give to them should they be brave enough to come closer. A bright necklace always hangs around his neck, made from blue and green draconium fragments, and is tied with a fine silk thread that is well cared for. His face is sharp, clean shaven and angular, but his eyes always has a warmth that shines through.
Open, friendly and well versed, he is an intellectual with a faint low-class accent, yet this hardly puts him down. He is understanding, polite, friendly and always ready for conversation. The work he does is often very stressful, but he manages to keep a calm and happy facade around the people he knows. Niall feels very strongly about things, he cares a lot and gives a lot and works hard to make the world around him happy.
It means everything to him if everyone can be joyous and carefree, and his patients love it. Well loved in the community he is also well known for his donations and kindness, and is often offered free-meals at taversn, though he always insists on paying. Ask him for anything and he will give it, give him something to do and he works himself to the bone for you.
And this, at the crutch of it, is his biggest weakness.
Niall feels, alot it's why he cares so much about the suffering of others, he can not stand seeing people upset, but this has led to him giving so much of himself that he burns out. He has suffered from stress-induced fevers, break-downs and even once worked himself into a coma. He doesn't know when to stop, he does understand that he is hurting himself in some way, but to him it barely matters, all he wants is the world to be happy.
No matter the cost.
Despite his kind disposition he'd had no true friends for a very long time. No one really connecting with him on a personel level. The fact that he annalyzes people so well could be the problem, but it never bothered him much. Until he met Antonio. The man managed to wriggle past his defences, and settled quite happily as a friend. Antonio has taken it upon himself to keep Niall from killing himself with work, Niall making sure Antonio in turn doesn't kill himseif with drink, and in the past two years it has seemed to work.
History: Born in the Green Draconium Empire, his family moved away when he was but a babe. They went to the RonYu province, where they lived close to a rice-field and where his father worked every day. It was a happy life back then, nothing bad ever happened and Niall loved his home. But from a very young age Niall had always been interested in the world outside. How far do those mountains go? He would wonder, how many other rice-fields can there really be?
From the age of five he would grab any book he could get his hands on, and his father, a paitent and kind man, taught him to read the words as best he could. His mother was proud of him, and she in turn taught him her own language, one of the Isles. This spurred in him a fascination for languages and by the time he was but 12 he could already write in two and speak in three. But it didn't stop there, his love for speaking became so great that he started to talk to everyone he could find. His small mind trying to understand why people did what they did, and soon he was not only a small master at language but also at conversation.
The village appointed him as negotiater with the merchants, and more often than not, he got them bargains and more than once free food! It was one of these merchants that saw not only the intellgence of the boy, but also his potential, and offered him a place on his caravan if he would help him with his own negotiations.
Niall had been thrilled. He'd always wanted to leave, to see what was beyond the village and mountains, and here was his chance! His father was terribly saddened by this, but he couldn't deny his son this chance, and he could see in those eyes the wanderlust that had once grabbed him when he was a boy.
So he agreed to it, and on the day his son was to leave he gave him two gifts; the first was a necklace his mother had made from green and blue draconium fragments "So you'll remember your home," he'd said, and the second was Archer, his very own, and very first dragon, "... and so that you can find your way back"
He left at the age of seventeen and for a time stayed with the merchent, learning not only new languages but new ways to negotiate items from people. Lying was something he never condoned nor did, but manipulation was a staple of negotiating.
Then he learned about the science of the mind, and so blindingly fascinated was he that for a time it was all he could talk about, driving the poor merchant mad. But soon they reached Dragon City, and the merchant, seeing a new spark in the boy's eyes, decided to let him go. Niall had been sad, but the Mercant explained to him that if he stayed with him he would never do what he truly wanted.
Embarrsed at being so obviou,s he silently let the Merchant help him get started on his road to being a Psychiatrist.
It would be a long and exhausting next few years, but eventually, after finishing his training, he started to work in the asylum, where he still works to this day.
In his years working in Dragon City, he met Antonio Hart who, at the time had been lying in a ditch, drunk as a lord. Their first meeting had not gone smoothly but after Niall had helped him, Antonio wanted to thank him, by giving him more work.
In all honesty Niall had no idea what to do with the man, he wasn't demanding but he was... persuasive and despite Niall seeing right through him, he was intrigued (and very bemused) by his caring, yet strange nature. No sooner had he helped him out with a few patients did he find himself in a bar with Antonio. The other man, happily dragging him along.
It took some time, but soon in between patients and taverns a friendship had sprung up, and both started to reach out more and more to eachother, finding companionship and a friend. Today they are a well known site, the bum and the gentleman, so completely different yet alike in so many ways.
Bone Color: Blue
Archer is a large quadroped. His legs are lean, lankey and quite lithe making him a very fine Blue Dragon. His tail is long and also very fine, and his neck is meduim length. The most distinct feature on Archer is the shape of his head. It is sharp at the tip and spread out slightly with two points that stretch out behind his head, giving him the effect of an 'Arrow head' (no pun intended).
His eyes are a bright with a lining of dark grass green. His base colour is blue, but marred with a combination of yellow, and dark green markings, running up and down his body, making him quite a colourful dragon. The markings are more angular and sharp, the yellow almost completely taking over the blue, and the dark green a beautiful compliment that lines his eyes, claws and some yellow markings. His tail stands high up, like most Blue Dragons and has two dull spikes one on top and one at the bottom, giving it a 'pick-axe' like look. Despite his fine body, he is decently muscled, but the lack of scars shows only that he is not a very battle active dragon.
He carries himself like any blue dragon should; with honour and pride. Up until he rolls around in the nearest mudd puddle.
Archer is an honourable, and intelligent dragon. He listens, his voice commands a respect with a confidence he resonates with ease. With his sharp eyes he often gets the answers he's looking for with little violence. In his own way he is a good communicator, particualry when dragons need are tight-lipped. To most he comes off as a bit prideful, and some even say he is full of himself, which is far from the truth, he simply speaks when it is needed, wasting words are foolish, and he is not one to babble for no reason.
But there is another side to him. Whenever his rider is upset, or when he gets an itch, he becomes almost the polar opposite of what he presents. He turns into a pup, playful, joyful and silly. Niall has often said he is a white dragon in a blue body, with the way he carries on. But Archer cares little for what others think of him, his playful side often peaking its head particulary during races. He rolls around, plays in the mudd, and often gets his rider into some sort of trouble. Due to his status, many have approached Niall on the idea of selling the wanton dragon and getting a more 'proper' one. But Niall always declines politely.
Archer gives him something no one else can, the chance to just laugh and be himself. The dragon never asks for anything in return, and no matter how stressed, nervous or depressed his rider gets he still loves him to bits, and will never leave his side if he can help it. Archer is by far not a vicious dragon, he would rather talk than fight, something he and his rider share. He is very aware of how dangerous the world can be, but he simply chooses to enjoy it while he still can.
Because hearing his rider laugh is really the only thing that matters.
In the beginning Archer and Niall struggled. They were polar opposties. Niall was a bubbling muttering and happy bookworm, and Archer was a serious and honourable blue. The two struggled to find any common ground, often finding themselves angry at each other for some reason or another. But Niall never sold Archer, the dragon meant too much to him.
When Niall finally settled in Dragon City and started his studies, Archer was bored to tears. His whole life he'd hoped to be a battle dragon, or a famous warrior and here he was stuck with a bookworm. The years slid by, and they settled in a 'neutral' spot in their relationship, where they tolerated each other but little less.
Then Niall had a break down. It was during a ride out into the furrows, where Niall wanted to get Archer to stretch his legs, when he heard the distinct 'thud' of his rider hitting the ground. Startled, the young dragon had spun around and was confused to find the bubbling, happy young man on the ground and crying. Niall had made little sound, only small sobs that seemed to worm their way into his heart.
But then he started muttering, all about his patients, how sad he was and how much he missed home, and through it all he applogized profusely to Archer, as if ths was something horrible he was doing. Archer was confused, scared even, he had no idea what to do with his rider. The man was always happy, always, he was just too kind and generous to be anything but! Seeing him like this was disconcering, and some part of him wanted to run then. But he held out, he couldn't leave him like this, and so he did the only thing he could think of.
He tried to make him smile again. He did everything, rolled in the mudd, jumped around, roared, put a dead newt on his head, and slowly Niall began to relax. When he finally burst out laughing, it surprised Archer just how much that laugh meant to him, he honestly did care about this rider, and he made a silent promise that day to always make him smile if he could.
Their relationship wasn't perfect over night, but through the years it grew stronger and Archer kept up his promise of keeping his rider, and now friend happy.
