Dragon Legends is set in the Land of Draconis. The people ride and train dragons for war or racing, or even just as basic mounts. There are 13 factions whcih are all based on the different colours of dragons. Only 11 of them are full Empires. Each of the Empires have different motivations and ideals that the others do not always agree with, which results in trade problems or even small wars.
In the middle of this is Dragon City, the final place to find any of the lost Golden Dragons. But even these are barely still gold and the priests have worked hard to create another 'pure golded dragon' with (insofar) little success.
Only three empires are open for exploration at this point ; The Teeth, Obsidia and Dragon City. The others will open as the game expands.
HISTORY OF DRACONIS
We all know the history. 10 000 years ago man and dragon lived in harmony. Then the dragons were bred into different colours, and eventually it all led to a great war that took place 3000 years ago. But what happened in between? How were the Empires created? A lot can happen in 10 000 years time, and so here is a what happened before the first Dragon-Human war.THE BLESSING OF BLASPHAMY
It is said when man and dragon first met they each thought they had found something precious to preserve. Of course legends often add to history. So let us start where the first scriptures were written:
Humans were once a struggling race, that lived on the outskirts of the Deadlands. Here they tried to survive but as the years passed and crops failed it was clear they needed to find a new home. So they set off, and in their travels they found the Golden Valley, which would one-day become Dragon City. Whatever they thought of each other, the dragons welcomed and accepted the humans, and together they built a vast Single Empire of Gold, and in that time peace reigned.
Here they built the Dragon Temple and people and dragons drew strength from this as the Priests told the old tales of creation and history. But as the population grew they longed for where they were born, and they decided to set off, to see if they can make a living now that the dragons were by their side.
The Priests blessed this journey and the people left. Some returned but many settled in their homelands or even travelled further, mapping the lands. It was in this time that the people realized the challenges that awaited them, and in an attempt to conquer it, they started to breed the dragons into different colours.
Thus the first change began.THE DAWN WAR
When the people and dragons had left the temple and scattered across Draconis, they started to change to adapt to their new worlds. It was natural really, the mountains needed to be moved, the fields had to be scouted and the plantations did not protect themselves. At first they were small changes; their speed, strength and abilities all changing and shifting steadily. But as time passed they started to change more and eventually all echoes of Gold seemed to fade away.
It was during this time that the hearts of man changed. The changing draconium affected the riders, where they were once equal now there was diversity. Where once resided understanding and kindness now only hate and arrogance spurred on their actions. Brothers were now enemies and they started a brutal war for territory and dominance that wasted all accross draconis; this was the first war fought and it was named The Dawn War.
They bickered over anything and everything. Dragons stayed by thier companins side and watched sadly as their human friends destroyed each other. Ambassadors from the Golden City were sent to stop them but these were either killed or imprisoned. Furious by what they had done, the Priests released a horrible disease among the people, in the hopes of stopping the war. A disease that sucked the energy out of the heart of man. But the sickness was too volatile and unstable, and what had started as a muffler effect, turned into a destructive force as now some of the dragons were being affected in the most horrifc ways possible. The war continued to rage on for over ten years, and by the end of it disease, famine and battles had killed off the the last few humans outside the Golden city walls.
The remaining dragons did not return home. They knew their lands and how to live there but the rage that had consumed man had now taken root in the hearts of the dragons that were left behind.THE FALL AND RISE
After the Dawn War the Dragons turned their attention away from the Priests and started to fight amongst themselves. For land, food or pride whichever the cause they were angry and out for blood. For years these battles raged and once more the lands were torn apart. The Dragons systematically destroying each other until only small pockets of them still remained in their vast kingdoms. It was not until man reached out again that any semblance of peace would be established.
A group of settlers came setttled in what would become Obsidia. It was easy enough to take hold of the lands as the last few dragons that still ran there were so battle weary they could barely defend themselves. A warrior of the Golden City saw that the dragons could be used, and decided to approach them. He made a deal with them, if they served his kingdom they would be protected and cared for, if they did not then they will be destroyed. Weary of battle and having little choice, the Psi-Dragons accepted the deal.
This caused a ripple effect through the entire Draconis. Perhaps they were fatigued, bored or eager for the touch of kindness but soon many dragons approached the humans, hoping to be taken into servitude. They were eager to stop the wars and for once have some semblance of peace, even if it meant sacrificing their freedom.
Thus came the fall of dragon and the rise of man.AWAKENING
Years passed, the Empires were built and slowly they became powerful, and it was during the growth of the Empires that man had learned what the disease had done to the dragons. Many were unaffected but there were some who were completely disfigured. Their bodies did not give energy but instead sapped a human dry, and often killed them. These dragons were shunned from society, forced to live on the very edges of the map where no man could find them.
It was here where these dragons dissapeared, where their cruelty began to breed and their hate take seed, and their hate was directed at the Golden City. And through this hate the Muhorta was born. These mutated dragons became living nightmares, their very existence threatening not only humans but dragons alike as they learned to control their new found powers. The era was called 'Awakening' for the realization that came to the Muhorta, and the events that followed it,. They realization was awakened that the Golden City was responsible for their condition, and they wanted revenge.
For a time they were silent, then slowly they crawled out of their holes and caves, and started towards their goal; The Golden City. They moved slowly but where they went death followed. The other dragons and humans fought them but it was a futile war. They were pressing their advatange, destroying town after town, consuming it in fire and death.
When they reached the Golden City it was a war that would see its walls crumble and leave the priests with little power. But just as they were about to destroy the city completely, a miracle. The Muhorta stopped. As if guided by an inner voice, they all turned away from the still standing City and slid back into their caves and hills and simply vanished.
Since that day the Muhorta has remained in obscurity.RADIANT WAR
Many years passed and the people and the small settlements grew into large Empires. The Black Empire was head of the pack and quickly captured a vast country for itself. It was during this time that Luminous the Light-Green Empire was also established. The small empire had trouble keeping up, and it was obvious they would soon fall. The Black Empire could see their usefulness and decided to help them with supplies in exchange for inventions and Gear.
It was agreed and the Luminous empire soon flourished under the watchfull eye of Obsida. It was during this alliance that the Dome was built to protect Obsidia and for a time there was peace between their people. From here the story becomes vague. On the one side the Black Empire states the Light-green broke constract and refused to rectify it, and the other say the Black Empire had lost its usefulness in the Luminous people.
The cause was not important only the war that followed and managed to descimate the small but proud Luminous Empire. Today they live as wandering Gypsies, finding some pity from Meridian but mostly they keep to themselves.
